Most of my dreams consist of spaces with fewer people or animals. I remember one dream I would inhabit for maybe a summer took place in a ruinous but mostly intact industrial building.

It had an ambiance kind of like Sevastopol from Alien: Isolation, but on earth. There never seemed to be an exterior. One area i spent a lot of time in was a loading dock area. It consisted of a long, wide concrete hallway with Sevastopol lighting, and on one half the floor ramped down to a lower part at a shallow angle. There seemed to be some kind of doors on that side of the building which i sorta feel like faced south.

There was tatters and trash everywhere. There was an entrance on the east end of the hallway to some other building, but I don't know where the lower part led. The hallway continued to the west, and larger hallways or doorways in some cases lined the northern wall of the area, they seem built for transporting large containers, or smaller and obviously for pedestrian traffic or maybe like a power jack/pallet jack.

There *is* an exterior, but i never found a way to get to it from inside the first building. I can kinda remember a few things that happened there, but it was a really long time ago and this was probably a summer's worth of dreams.

I also have hypo and hypnapompic imagery, but i can still have regular dreams too

had a fucked up dream last night. was just sitting at my pc when these serious foss guys bust in the room. they looked pissed and started yelling that i had to switch to firefox immediately, going on about how chrome is proprietary spyware and only open source can be trusted.
i tried telling them to fuck off but they wouldnt listen. one of them took over my keyboard and forced the install while lecturing me about licenses. when firefox opened everything felt off and slow, like my whole setup was ruined.
woke up in a cold sweat. im still using chrome but that dream felt way too real. these foss weirdos are even invading my sleep now wtf.

i just had a reall coool dream

had a really nice conversation reminiscing with a fictional character. the setting was my childhood home, except only parts of the the exterior and parts of the outside walls. then i encountered the son of my neighbor, except he looked kinda like a guy that played Tekkn 3 Tag Tournament at an arcade i went to for a short time like ages ago. also my neighbor never had a son. then we started talking and realized we got along famously, except he never existed, that neighbor had 2 daughters.

also, i was in my room loooking out towards the rear of the house and i saw a weird stubby donkey that i kept calling Burro get into a fight with a Boar, and i grabbed my binoculars to see what they were. that little donkey ran off and for some reason could jump really high. thre was also a third animal i couldnt recall. in this dream i also had a dog. also i drank some orang ejuice.

the cool part of that conversation was thinking that we were like, enemies but realizing we got along really well. then i told him about that guy i knew named The Dart. the dream also featured a conversational flashback like in a movie where 2 characters are talking about something and the the conversation elapses via a flashback scene.

at one point while i was looking at the burro and boar tussle through binoculars and the burro escaped by jumping onto a fence, and then right up off the fence onto a roof. i watched the boar run off into the thicket / woods. and i saw what i thought was a deer run out but it turne dout t be a horse with 2 like teen boys on the back of it, except it also had a platform. they were like on the platform with some stuff they were transporting back, then i opened the window and shouted at them "HEY! WHATS WITH THE HORSE???"

well i just had the god damned weirdets dream ie ever had

one weird thing i noticed was that i was listening to something talking about the panama papers when i went to sleep, and it seem to have worked some details in there but the chronology is way way off, because that shit ended like hours and hours before i woke up because of a continuity error in which a very quick robotic rabbit was biting me in the ass as i was climbing a tree after avoiding it behind this tree

the last thing i remember is looking over a balcony and seeing a dog running across the street on the far side before a car crashed into it, and then it went flying into a field before smashing into a robot which was somehow activated by it and also became wheeled of tracked. then the robot went haywire, crashed into a sheet metal barn, then the barn became like assimilated by it. this thing went haywire as well and became a very quick robotic rabbit which i guess targeted me after i rushed down to i think maybe try and save the dog, its very hazy already and highly convoluted

whats interesting is that when i climbed the tree to avoid this very quick rabbit shaped robotic thing, what woke me up was that it should have been injuring me but i felt no pain. its like why the fuck would not all the rest of this dumb shit not trigger my skepticism?

there was also a part of the dream where i went into this abandoned building where Sonic Youth was playing

man getting my ass destroyed by a possibly cybernetic rabbit is really a headscratcher

Japan has had the internet "otaku" culture much longer than many other places in the world. They realized something that we are only now starting to see the effects of in many other countries and cultures - the way that genres, the "vibe", or the "meta" becomes more powerful than the actual content of a specific genre, narrative, or concept - the Japanese even have a name for it -

Database Consumption

>From Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database_consumption) -

"""Database consumption (Japanese: データベース消費, romanized: dētabēsu shōhi) refers to a way of content consumption in which people do not consume a narrative itself, but rather consume the constituent elements of the narrative.  The concept was coined by the Japanese critic Hiroki Azuma in the early 2000s to describe how characters and mechanics found in a narrative's "database" are demanded and consumed by fans without trying to compensate for the absence of an encompassing grand narrative, in a manner dependent on personal interpretations. Azuma cites the change in consumption patterns of Japanese otaku content since the late 1990s as a major example of "database consumption", during which the "control" over a franchise shifted from the authors and manufacturers to the fans. Satoshi Maejima suggests that narratives that end inconclusively force fans to turn to database consumption and to "character moe", in which the characters of a franchise become the direct targets of fan affection. Azuma compares this affection to drug addiction and calls it "animalization".
…
The background to Azuma's presentation of this theory is the concept of narrative consumption by the critic and writer Eiji Ōtsuka.

In his A Theory of Narrative Consumption, Ōtsuka cites franchises like Bikkuriman stickers and Sylvanian Families as examples, pointing out that people are not consuming the items but the "grand narratives" (大きな物語, 'big story', worldviews and setting) behind them. He called the paradigm of consumption mainly found since the 1980s "narrative consumption". It is also referred to as "worldview consumption" (世界観消費) to avoid the ambiguity of "narrative" which specifically means "grand narrative (worldview and setting)" in this theory.

>I see people talk around this subject all the time, but very few people explain it for what it really is
I haven't ever seen anyone use the term "database consumption" (because it's frankly a bit clunky) but I've seen people discuss the phenomenon in generally more simple terms. "Secondary Fan" is a term I see thrown around alot for someone more interested in the media and culture surrounding a work rather than the work itself. People who like the idea of a work more than the work itself - the example in your post of programmers who are more into "programming" itself, rather than anything ends-focused like "software development" or "video games development" and talk alot about their favourite programming languages but not so much what they're actually doing with them.

Just to go on a tangent, I'm not a programmer, but just as an outsider looking in, "hacker culture" or whatever you'd like to call it, I feel used to be alot more about what you could actually DO with a computer. The computer was this tool that, if you understood it, you could do just about anything with. Nowadays it's just programming language/distro/text editor flame wars and people posting photographs of their riced-out Linux setups.

Back on topic, you're correct I feel in that culture has (and is continuing to) largely shift from the consumption of works themselves to the consumption of "constituent elements of the [work]." 'The Vibe' of something being more important than the actual content of the work. An undue focus on setting over plot and an extreme reliance of (and expectation of adherence to) literary tropes are elements I've noticed from these very postmodern works. Or, a work that seems to be an excuse for 'loremasters' to fill a wiki, which they get more enjoyment out of than actually engaging with the work itself. The big tendency is, I feel, breaking down complicated subject manner into easily identifiable and replicable tropes. I feel like the reason for this is because, not to get all "kids these days" but people are more isolated and generally have less of a sense of community than they did in the past.(tl;dr mass adoption of the internet) "Fandoms" have essentially become communities replacing real-world ones. Most people have limited life experience but alot of experience with media, which causes people to be more derivative in thei... Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>which is so much safer than asking whether users care.
Dear God, what an idiotic sentiment. Rewriting the architecture isn't for the (L)users, it's for YOU, the person tasked with knowing "every flaw in the architecture, every impure abstraction, every place where the old code fails to express its true intent" and yeah, the person tasked with knowing "what to say in every meeting". People like knowing these things because they don't like getting fired. Thinking a programming language is just a modular thing to be discarded just ejects the fact that it takes 10 years to really master one, or that it takes 10 years to really master programming for an architecture. That means that if we want to truly maximize the use of any technology, we can't just categorize it as modular and obsoleted in 6 months.

The Society of the Spectacle is pretty prescient reading given the last 20 years.

I skimmed this translation, I like the Donald Nicholson-Smith / Zone Books translation better but this is what I got:

https://files.libcom.org/files/The%20Society%20of%20the%20Spectacle%20Annotated%20Edition.pdf

People are constantly being bombarded with media and curated images, movies, celebrities, etc that end up mediating our relationships totally. It doesn't really even matter what you have, as time marches on, the appearance of things is even more real to people scrolling on smartphones than an actual person they might connect with directly. Instead of having real friendships, people watch an idealized Sitcom version, or form "parasocial" relationships with streamers. Instead of meeting a romantic partner, we're swiping right on computationally idealized filter-edits of our actual photos.

I find his comments about counterculture and rebellion to be the most compelling. Corporate fashion co-opts every "cool" rebellious counter cultural trend and sells it right back to you. You don't have to bother socializing, creating a counter culture, you can just buy the outfit at Hot Topic. Now we've even got Suno AI Bullshit, the corporate dream is that artists are replaced by yet another commodified simulacrum, much easier to control and denude to maximize shareholder value. When you do happen to manage to connect with say, a band you like, you get scalpers reselling Ticketmaster branded tickets to a venue named after a bank.

This shit reads like Nostradamus.

Not for me. I consider witnessing all the hobos and nons smoking this everywhere around main station, even in the park area at the nicest business district in town more effective on this. Some people are just rude

I do smoke from time to. It used to be more excessive like 25 years ago. Nowadays I don't have much time to be fucked up on drugs.

> As for weed. Can't you ask for something not super strong? I would of though they could of figured that out.

If it isn't legal you are shit out of luck, but there are milder options out there in the form of predecessors like THC-x and THC-a that is in weed that has been harvested before it was ripe.

They are legal in the EU due to a judgement from their supreme court. Just avoid ready made doobies. Some gonna hit you like brick and it will be fairly obvious that you are stoned. Another thing to avoid is THC-k. That is a literal narcotic that knocks some people out as soon as the dosage reaches a certain level.

>>39
>I have a vaporizer but I never used it much, it's a table vape similar to the volcano, but I remember saving the byproduct to try and eat but I never got to do it.
If it is weed, its more effective to use it a tobacco substitute. This is what my fren and me have done when ripped vapor through a bowl all weekend.

Yes.

Yes, you can definitely get less-strong weed. It is also much stronger now, but thats a function of people growing is properly vs buying dirt brick weed or "beasters"

You can definitely get 15-20% THC(a) which is still plenty strong. Its must harder to buy dirt weed, literally nobody wants it.

In most US States you can buy weed by its terp profile, even a lot of recreational does a terpinalysis now.

I've used emmett miller and steven halpern's "letting go of stress" as a "self-hypnosis" that I do regularly, usually one or two times a day, on and off for maybe 7 years. It's a regular use thing if it's to work and right now I'm in the swing of using it again.

The concept of guided imagery is related as a way to visually focus on the factors that this meditation series includes. I also want to start practicing belly breathing, or using my diaphragm to aid breathing as I was once a pack a day smoker and this can help breathing in some ways I've read that I'm not sure about. Additionally, progressive muscle relaxation is helpful. I would say it can help put my mind in sync with my body, though I'm not sure how this idea would technically be put in my case. I guess it helps me be less influenced by knee-jerk reaction, leading to a less effortful, forceful sort of experience

Finally, I'll share a series or two I've enjoyed at other times:

Freebird meditations
Dr Linda Bolle
Dr steven frucht
There's lots of this stuff on youtube. The psychologist who shared the first production I listed said it doesn't work for everyone

Cool recommendations. To add to your thing about self-hypnosis Dave Elman's "Hypnotherapy" is a great introduction to hypnosis for anyone interested. Guy made it for the medical world but it's just a really good introduction to what hypnosis is, how it works, and simple techniques for anyone interested.

In regards to belly breathing and progressive muscle relaxation I'd recommend Robert Bruce's book "Energy Work". Has lots of exercises on working with your body's energy and can boost any spiritual practices or your body's general health by a good margin. Quick, simple exercises and you can just read a bit each day to try and implement exercises. You'd probably want to use it to aid any breathwork you do.

Regarding breathwork you could try "Science of Breath" by yogi Ramacharaka
Easy read that takes an afternoon, talks about full breaths and the various, poorer ways people may breathe.
